Born in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, Satya Nadella,is the executive vice president of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group, responsible for building and running the company’s computing platforms, developer tools and cloud services. All rounder, shy, humble, super nice, collaborative, very technical, deeply engaged, a visionary leader and strong willed person as described by people who know him personally is being seen as the favourite – Bloomberg reported, Microsoft’s board is preparing to name him as CEO of the company.
In selecting 46-year-old Nadella as its CEO, the US based Microsoft Corporation would be giving recognition to Hyderabad for the second time. It was the setting up of Microsoft’s first development centre outside the United Stated here in 1998 that began the transformation of the city of pearls into ‘Cyberabad’. If chosen, Nadella, would be the first Indian to become Microsoft CEO.
At Microsoft, Nadella started working as the senior vice president of R&D for the Online Services Division and vice president of the Microsoft Business Division. Later, he was made the president of Microsoft’s $19 billion Server and Tools Business and led a transformation of the company’s business and technology culture from client services to cloud infrastructure and services. He has been credited for bringing Microsoft’s database, Windows server and developer tools to its Azure cloud. The revenue from Cloud Services grew to $20.3 billion in June 2013 from $16.6 billion when he took over in 2011.
Nadella ,born to an Indian Administrative Service officer, B. N. Yugandhar, who was a member of the Planning Commission during 2004-2009 under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He attended Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet before attaining a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics & Communications degree from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, Karnataka.
Since, 30 January 2014, news reports started surfacing that he is the frontrunner to become the next CEO of Microsoft in succession of Steve Ballmer.
