Intro: The four day exhibition COMPASS 2013- The Tech Fair pulled huge crowd and garnered business opportunities for the vendors participated in the largest annual technology fair held in Kolkata. The theme of the 16th COMPASS tech fair was ICE- Information, Communication and Entertainment which attracted exhibitors, visitors and the delegates.
COMPASS 2013- the largest annual technology fair concluded on 23rd December 2013 brought some new concepts to get people introduce to new technologies in gizmos and gadgets. The four-day fair consisted of 3 entertaining events, 20 pavilions, 98 stalls and 74 participants. One of the main attractions of the expo was the gaming zone that encouraged young gamers to participate in an action packed gaming event. Games like Counter Strike 1.6, DOTA 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, FIFA 14 & NFS Most Wanted was the attraction with the winning prize of Rs 50,000. Winners of the competition will be battling it out at finals in Delhi.
The gaming event was sponsored by AMD and was conducted by Xtreme Gaming. Subir Mahapatra Regional Manager- East & Bangladesh, AMD was delighted to see the response. He asserts, “In the last two years I have attended many events but have not witness such a good response from any other place, which COMPASS has received.
An interschool quiz competition was also organised during the four day expo where 20 prominent schools participated. The exhibition drove the students’ attention towards the new technologies in IT. V K Bhandari, Member COMPASS, presented the trophy to the Don Bosco School, the winners of the interschool COMPASS 2013 IT quiz.
Having organized in Milan Mela ground, the expo was inaugurated by Manish Gupta, Sales Director, Dell India. Partha Chatterjee, IT Minister, West Bengal said in his address, “IT software exports from STP and non-STP units in West Bengal touched Rs 11200 crores in the fiscal 2012-13. The IT & ITeS sector provided direct employment to 1.3 lakh professionals and indirect employment to nearly 6 lakh people in the state.” He, however, said that this growth was concentrated in the Kolkata Metropolitan Areas.” He said the state government was planning an inclusive IT and ITeS growth in the state by setting up 13 IT Parks and hubs across West Bengal. Two IT parks are already operational in Durgapur and Siliguri with almost full occupancy. “We are also setting up an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Kalyani in coordination with MHRD, Government of India, and have selected industrial partners on a PPP model basis.”
Pleased with the response of the expo Pawan Jajodia, President, COMPASS informs, “In this period of recession the support which Compass got from the vendors and the participants was tremendous.” Sanjay Chajjer, Chairman, Compass 2013 asserted, “This year expo was unique in many ways, despite little time in hand, and during festival time, we utilized social medium to reach to large audience, we did a lot of ATL and BTL activities, free entry tickets were distributed to students, special arrangements were made for large corporate houses and government officials for their visit.”
Nil Madhav Bhowmik, Regional Sales Manager, East of Nvidia says, “We have showcased our Gaming graphic card 780TI. It is our awareness move to the gamers. Those who have booked the product in Compass are getting discount of Rs.5000/- on 780TI. Also we have showcased our new launch Nvidia Shield.”
Dream planet, Targous, Amkette, Lapcare got good response from this platform and showcased their new product while generating good demand. Kaushik Mukherjee, Regional Manger, Dream planet confessed that, “We haven’t planned for selling product in this exhibition but the demand what was generated we have started selling the product.”
Sponsors like Dell, Ricoh also had their pavilion showcasing their new range of products with the best offers. The vendors were also very delighted with the outcome of their investment in Compass. COMPASS 2013 believes in encouraging innovation and creativity and introduced world’s first True Colour 3D Scanning & Printing Services. Durability, affordability and eco‐friendliness were the key ingredients in making this product an instant eye catcher at the main event. For the first time in India, spectators witnessed a live demonstration of 3D printing at the fair. The stall pulled huge crowd on all the four days.
