Apps for safety of women

Intro: In the wake of no safety for women, telecom companies are giving them an advantage to use the technology to call their loved ones or their loved ones can track them in an emergency situation. To strengthen women safety and security an SOS service has been added to the mobiles to help women in distress.

The urban women of today have been the victim to increasing number of crimes and often live in fear in her own city. With an aim to lend a secure feeling to the women of the country and their loved ones, applications like Guardian by Microsoft, ICE by iBall have lend a helping hand to them.

Microsoft’s Guardian, a new safety app available for Windows Phone users exclusively designed for women, enables users to switch on a ‘track me’ feature in the app that lets friends and family track them in real time using Microsoft Windows Azure cloud services and Bing Map APIs. Guardian users can call for help through an ‘SOS’ alert button and also connect to security agencies, police and hospitals easily via this app in times of distress.

To use Guardian effectively, users need to add the names of friends, family members and security groups to the settings. In an emergency situation, the app can be used to alert them, via the SOS button. All the user has to do is tap the SOS button.

The phone then sends a distress SMS to all buddy mobiles, notifying them of the emergency along with location details. At the same time the SOS button also sends emails to buddy email IDs and posts to private Facebook groups, if registered. Guardian uses Microsoft Windows Azure cloud services and Bing Map APIs extensively and can help securities authorities and medical teams track the user. The phone can be traced even if it is broken. The application is capable of one touch video recording that may be used later as evidence.

To protect the women iBall has launched iBall Andi Udaan phone with a dedicated and exclusive SOS button at the back of the phone. If a woman finds herself stuck in a sombre situation, on pressing this SOS button – it immediately sets on a loud siren that alerts the people nearby along with messages and calls automatically made to the five pre-defined contacts.

It sends a message alerting of an emergency situation to the pre-defined contacts along with the location of the person based on geo codes. Capitalizing on the accessibility and effectiveness of social media, the phone then sends out a Facebook update too.

Besides this never-before-seen function of SOS on a smart phone, iBall Andi Uddaan has a pre-installed application ‘ICE’- In case of Emergency that allows the user to add vital personal details like blood group, medical history, details of persons to be contacted in emergency, etc. which can be very helpful in case of an emergency situation.

The phone also enables, when activated, GPS tracking by up to 10 people. This can be very helpful in knowing the whereabouts of the loved one, and parents can be at rest and peace. One can view the location of the person or can get the updates at pre-defined intervals. The tracking function can also be used in business to track the personnel on field.

Another very useful feature in iBall Andi Uddaan is that it facilitates the addition of two geo-fences for receiving custom alerts. User can define the geo-fence on map location and can be programmed to get alerts by mail or sms when a person enters or exits the fence area.
